School Garden Program

What Can a Garden Do For My School?

Enhance Academic Instructions:  By bringing academics into the real world gardens enhance instruction in many subjects including: science, nutrition, language, math, social and environmental studies.

Meet Current Standards using Projects and Curriculum: The Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom Program can provide curriculum and fun activities that will help meet current standards, so garden is part of the regular lessons.

How Do Schools Apply For The Farm Bureau Program?

Identify a Lead Teacher:  Each school/program will identify a lead teacher or project contact.  The person identified will be directly responsible for student garden activity.

Create a Project Plan:  Each school will submit a short three-part working plan identifying scope and scale of a proposed school garden to the Farm Bureau.  Plan will identify specific needs involved in establishing the garden.  Project plan will also identify maintenance plans and resources for sustaining the garden (i.e. PTA, 4-H Club, other partners).  Teachers shall submit a brief summary of their results by June 15 (pictures welcome).

Get Official Permission:  All schools/programs will receive approval from school/district administration.
