Scholarship Application

Dear Scholarship Applicant:

 

The Tulare County Farm Bureau Scholarship program was organized to give scholarships annually based on leadership skills and grades.  Carefully review scholarships and options listed below and select one scholarship.

 

To Apply:

  • Complete and return application

  • Submit two letters of recommendation

  • Transcripts must accompany the application

  • Must currently attend a school in Tulare County

IF ANY OF THE ABOVE ITEMS ARE MISSING FROM YOUR APPLICATION PACKET AFTER MARCH 1, YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.  APPLICANT IS RESPONSIBLE TO BE SURE TRANSCRIPTS HAVE BEEN SENT.

 

AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS:

Ag Career

  • $1000 - Frank Ribeiro Memorial Scholarship for a student pursuing a career in ag related field at a 4 year school.

  • $1,000 - TCFB Scholarship - same as Ribeiro scholarship but may be renewed for 3 years if criteria are met giving the scholarship a $4,000 value. Two scholarships will be awarded.

  • $1,000- Tulare County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers for a student pursuing a career in ag related field at a 4 year university.

  • $1,000 - Fred & Marilyn Collison Memorial Scholarship for a student pursuing a career in an ag related field at California State University, Fresno.

  • $500 - California State University, Fresno Ag One Scholarship.  Available to a student enrolling at CSUF pursuing a degree in agricultural business, plant, animal or food science or ag education.

  • $500 - College of Sequoia's Ag Department Scholarship.  Available for ag major student attending COS.

  • $500 - Porterville College - for an ag major student attending Porterville College.

  • $500 - Scott Shannon Memorial Scholarship - may be renewed for 3 years if criteria are met giving the scholarship a $2000 value.  Must be an ag major and enrolled in the Visalia Unified School District.

Education

  • $1,000 - TCFB Education Scholarship awarded to a student pursuing a career in teaching.  May be renewed for 3 years if criteria are met giving the scholarship a $4,000 value at a 4 year school. 

Student of Farm Employee (students of owners or operator of an ag operation are not eligible)

  • $1,000 - TCFB Scholarship to a student who has a parent employed s a farm worker and will be attending a 4-year institution.  This scholarship may be renewed for 3 years if criteria are met giving the scholarship a $4,000 value.

DO YOU HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF A COUNTY FARM BUREAU? No, but you must be a resident of Tulare County.

 

WHAT CRITERIA ARE USED TO SELECT WINNERS?  Awards are made based on scholastic achievement, career goals, leadership skills and financial need.  Top applicants will be interviewed during the week of April 7, 2008.

 

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE? All information requested on the application must be postmarked on or before March 1.  We will not process documents after this date.  You will be notified by mail of application results by May 15.

 

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS RENEWABLE? Current college registration denoting 12 units or more and previous semester grades with GPA of 2.8 or better will be required for renewal consideration.  The Tulare County Farm Bureau office must receive these and a letter requesting consideration for renewal no later than September 15th to receive renewing monies.

 

Instructions: Scholarship application and all required material pertaining to it must be sent to Tulare County Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 748, Visalia, CA 93279 postmarked by March 1st.  Applications and/or accompanying documents postmarked after March 1st will not be considered.  All material provided must be on 8 1/2" x 11" paper and current 2008 application must be used or application will not be accepted.  The two letters of recommendation must contain the following:  The name of the applicant, comments on the applicant's character and abilities and an opinion of his/her ability to profit from a college education.  (A parent or close relative cannot be considered as a reference).  The name and occupation of each person writing a letter of recommendation is required.  Each letter must be signed.  Letters of recommendation must be postmarked by March 1st.
