Water Policies

Friant Water Usage

The Tulare County Farm Bureau Opposes any expansion of the permitted place of use of Friant Water.

Tulare County Water Usage

  1. Tulare County Farm Bureau opposes any transfer, exchange or similar transaction which has the effect of reducing the amount of water available for beneficial use within the area unless the transfer, exchange or similar transaction can be completed in one year or less and water is determined to be surplus to the area needs.
  2. Tulare County Farm Bureau will consider opposition to any transfer, exchange or similar transaction involving any water otherwise available within the area, which may jeopardize the legal, political or policy position in any legal, regulatory or public policy forum.
  3. Alternative programs to those which involve transactions with entities outside of the Tulare County area need to be developed and implemented.  The Tulare County Farm Bureau will encourage, and assist where appropriate, the development of public policy needed to maintain and enhance the availability of water within the Tulare County area.

Water Delivery

The Board of Directors of Tulare County Farm Bureau recognizes the importance and value of water delivered through the Friant Kern Water system particularly to the family farms of the eastside of the San Joaquin Valley and supports the renewal contracts negotiated between Orange Cove Irrigation District and the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation.  In a likewise manner, we support renewal of other contracts as they expire and we oppose efforts to impede the execution of all of these contracts.
