Cal/OSHA to Step Up Heat Illness Enforcement
on the First Hot Days of 2010

Courtesy of Ron Barsamian of FELS Group Legal Services Program partner Barsamian & Moody:

“With temperatures expected to hit triple digits next week in the Central Valley, and temperatures increasing all over the State, be prepared for EEEC and OSHA inspections to occur almost immediately.  State officials have consistently warned employers that they are prepared to move into areas the minute a heat wave hits.  A comparatively cool May may have caused some employers to become a bit lax in preparation for summer work.  Double check all required postings, remind supervisors of the need to keep toilets and water within a few minutes walking distance, review training schedules and proof of training and by all means...put the canopies up!”
